THE GOOSE PIT ART SHOPPE
Where it all Began....
It was a dark and stormy night....the Sunday night before Memorial Day back in 1997, that Jamie Voigt and few neighbors an friends huddled together in the single stall garage during a spring rain that put the hamper on the "outside" activities, but not the beer drinking. It wasn't too long before it was colder then the beer and the whole group migrated to the unfinished basement.
Sometime during the shuffling of lawn and table chairs around the basement - an ideal was "hatched" - BUILD A BAR! Over the next six year construction started and stopped as Voigt travelled to Montana searching the backwoods fo artesian crafts and decor, soon the basement resemble a cabin rather then a bar. Just after the turn of the century (How old does that make you feel?) a few trips to Key West and ideas from Sloppy Joes and the Hog's Breathe and the bar started to take shape. The saltwater tackle, rods and some poor mounted colorful fish soon adorned the remaining wall space.
The original bar was located under the steps and soon grew in size and the addition of the wetbar prompted the moving of the bar to closer to the "men's room". Just like Papa Hemingway - a good bar, favorite urinal, and of course the combination of those two items in your basement makes the bar "infamous". My favorite crew of bar patrons, tenders and maids from Robbies Bar made up the regulars and most Memorial Day Bashes as we gathered to laugh, drink some beer and eat some food and relive previous party "events". Just like Robbies Bar, the Goose Pit Bar and Grill is now gone - but the memories live on.
How did the Goose Pit get named?
One summer day while Kali and Cooper, (my niece and nephew) were at an Art in the Park event they came across a sign maker and came up with the name for their Uncle Goose. "The Goose Pit" was thus hatched and leave it to an eight year old and four year old to come up with the name that stuck.
Where it will Go...
It will be hard to replace the original Goose Pit, but as my old boss used to say...."You have to first Dream it, then see it in your mind, then just Live it". Well with a little bit of creativity and few Corona's - the next Goose Pit is being worked on!
