Your Other Right!

This 36 x 48 Acrylic painting is on display in the room that divides the Goose Pit from Art Shoppe to Bar and Grill.  With my first experience of fishing on the flats in Key West came on my fortieth birthday in 2004 and I wanted to remember that day.  It had been thirty some years since the last time I had done anything in the form of drawing or painting and this was very first experience with acrylic paints, so why not do the biggest project first?

With three tubes of paint (white, brown and orange) and one paint brush the size of a cigar (felt good in my hand) I sat in front of my TV in my living room and began - just painting.  All of my pictures are done virtually the same way - grab a brush of any size that feels good - pick three or four colors and  "just start writing" as I call it - on the canvas.  Many times as I paint, I write what I am thinking or many times while traveling I will begin writing and a picture comes to mind that would be fun to paint.  So sometimes the writing becomes the painting or the painting becomes a story.

Once finished the picture, I went in many month pursuit of a 36 x 48 bamboo frame, I searched the inter net, stores, frame shops - but just couldn't find the one I was looking for.  So one day I had some bamboo stakes for the yard - and just started making a frame.  That venture lead to me to finding the best possible bamboo to make frames and I am now able to keep myself in a lifetime supply of bamboo for frame making - due to the large order of the first bamboo, I found or should we say didn't quite understand  one another between the language barrier- of just how much room  a thousand pieces of 12' foot bamboo takes up!!
